Mine Risk Education concert in Battambang (snippet)
If you found yourself in Pcheav Village last weekend, an hour and a half’s drive from Battambang in Cambodia, along a bumpy unsealed road, you were in for a lot of fun – and some important messages. For the last three years, International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA) has been working in partnership with World Vision Australia and Cambodia on a large project, funded by AusAID, to address the legacy of landmines. Cambodia remains severely mine and Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) affected. The Community Strengthening and Gender Mainstreaming for Integrated Mine Action (CSGMINA) project combines de-mining with community development so individuals and communities benefit from areas that were once inaccessible. The Mine Risk Education concert in Battambang on Saturday 10 October was one part of a pilot initiative engaging young men and boys who are most at risk of landmine injuries, to develop peer messages discouraging youth from tampering with landmines and other explosive remnants of war. iwda.org.au
